Brunch With Santa
Raises $700

Lots of Hubbardston families turned out on Saturday, December 3, for our Brunch With Santa fundraiser where they enjoyed home-baked treats, sang Christmas carols, crafted, and visited with Old Saint Nick. We were able to raise $700 toward the new playground.

Check out the photos in the gallery.

Thanks to everyone who participated!

Yankee Candle Fundraiser Nets $7K

Despite the minor setbacks posed by the unexpected October blizzard, the Yankee Candle fundraiser was a runaway success, raising $7,000 for the playground!

Our thanks go out to all of the students who worked hard selling the products and to the parents relatives, and members of the community  who made purchases and ensured the success of this fundraiser.

Community Fundraisers a "Pig" Success

Don and Elaine McKay, the owners of Hubbardston's favorite ice cream parlor, Calico and Crème, generously donated money deposited into EIEIO, their piggy bank with a purpose, to the HCS Playground Fund. They collected almost $650!

And in October,
Plain View Farm in Hubbardston donated $275 to the fund. This was a portion of their proceeds from their "Meet the Alpacas/Pick a Pumpkin" open houses.

We are grateful for the support of these two businesses, as well as to all the people whose purchases and spare change made it possible for their donations. Thank you all very much!

Spare Change-a-Palooza 2012

Hubbardston Center School, 8 Elm Street, Hubbardston

Small change adds up to big money to get this playground built. Last year, HCS kids raised almost $3,000!

Tell the kids to start saving their coins and to bring them to school on Wednesday, May 30. The class that brings in the biggest donation will win a pizza party!

FAQ From the Kids

Can we donate coins from Canada?
No, please only bring in United States currency.

Can we bring in paper money?
Since we judge the amount of donations by weight (since it would take too much time to count money when we receive it), we suggest going to the bank ahead of time to exchange any paper money for coins.

Can I donate my allowance?
If you have your parents' or guardians' permission to do so, great!

How should I bring the coins to school?
Some of the teachers are setting up coin jars in their classrooms to collect coins from now until May 30. If your teacher doesn't have a coin jar, or if you decide to bring in your coins all at once be sure to bring them in a container that will not break, such as a:

  • Coffee can
  • Plastic food container
  • Cloth bag
Do not bring coins in glass jars, open containers, or plastic bags that could tear. We had a few sessions of "chase the change" last year due to bags ripping!

Do I need permission to donate to the Spare Change-a-Palooza?
Yes. You should tell your parents or guardians that you would like to bring money to the school for this fundraiser. Don't assume that any coin collections around the house are yours to take; always ask first.

Can I bring in gold coins or really old coins?
Unless it's a Sacagawea dollar, chances are that any gold coins you have are worth far more than their face value. The same goes for antique coins. Always ask a parent or guardian if it's OK to donate the coins you find.

What if we raise more funds than we need to build a playground?
Then we'll either add more equipment to the playground design or establish a maintenance fund.

What if two classes bring in the exact amount of money?
In the unlikely event that this happens, then we will have two pizza parties!
